It has now been more than 14 years since Congress raised the federal minimum wage – the longest stretch without an increase since the minimum wage was established nearly 100 years ago. And thanks to inflation, $7.25 an hour doesn't go nearly as far as it did back in 2009. As the AFL-CIO put it, "$7.25/hour, in 2023, is a poverty wage."
