Republicans just took their war on public education to the next level. A Republican-controlled congressional subcommittee recently advanced legislation that would remove more than 220,000 public school teachers from their classrooms and cut Department of Education funding to the lowest levels in 20 years. Democrats on the committee didn't mince words in their description of what Republicans are trying to do. "If left to their own devices, Republicans would gleefully take public education to the graveyard," said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, the top Democrat on the committee. "Disgraceful to say the least," added Rep. Barbara Lee. Sign the petition demanding that Republicans stop attacking teachers and public education.
