A Canadian mining company is on the verge of constructing the largest lithium mine in North America on federal land in Nevada. If approved, the Thacker Pass mine would desecrate land that is considered sacred by the Western Shoshone and Paiute tribes. It would also destroy thousands of acres of greater sage-grouse habitat and threaten two pronghorn migration corridors. Lahontan cutthroat trout, bighorn sheep, and pygmy rabbits would also be further imperiled by the construction and operation of the mine. The tribes and conservation groups have been fighting the mine in court for years, but thanks in part to the Biden administration's support, a federal appeals court just gave the mine the green light to move forward. Sign the petition urging the Biden administration to stop allowing mining on sacred tribal sites.
