Age restrictions are implemented to shield children from the harsh reality of social media. But with so much readily available at the push of a button, we must do a better job at enforcing age restrictions on social media. A recent report found that roughly 100,000 children using Facebook and Instagram receive online sexual harassment each day. And it’s not just online. Social media platforms are causing danger in real life, too. Young girls are being influenced to purchase products and skincare with chemicals that are meant to be marketed to adults. Sign the petition to urge Big Tech to enforce age restrictions on platforms. And while Meta states that they’ve taken big steps to keep children safe online and prevent unwanted contact from adults, a Guardian investigation revealed that Meta has failed to report the use of its platforms for child trafficking and other unsafe actions being taken. If tech companies took age restrictions more seriously we could help protect children on and offline. Meta and other big tech offenders need to reinforce age restrictions and put stricter guidelines into place. Too many children are slipping through the cracks. Sign the petition urging big tech to take this more seriously and actually enforce age restrictions.
